This was a very fun triple threat match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill were presented like beasts, with the other two teams needing to team up to gain any sort of momentum, which was a nice thread throughout the bout. All women were involved for most of the match, with it having a feeling of organized chaos rather than an uncoordinated mess. That was until the ending, where one unfortunate botch led to a very sloppy final stretch. The victory for Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre in front of their home country was a nice moment though.

10 Best WWE Matches Of 2024, Definitively Reviewed

WWE fans have been enjoying some amazing bouts under Triple H's direction. Which have been the best matches of 2024?

This had a methodical pace to it, with Niven playing her role as the more dominant wrestler, beating down Bayley and displaying her strength with power moves. The crowd was unsure at times who exactly to cheer for given Niven’s status as a heel, but it made for an audience who rooted for both wrestlers, adding to it for sure. There wasn’t too much in the way of character work, with the focus being more on the in-ring side of things. It did run slow at times, and the finish wasn’t especially enthralling, but it served its purpose.

3 Cody Rhodes Vs. AJ Styles (WWE Championship, “I Quit”)

This could not have been more different to their previous match at Backlash. This was far more physical, full of animosity, and featured much more brutal moments. Fighting in the backstage area, a brainbuster on the announce table, using an array of weapons, blood, and handcuffs. The prolonged beatdown portion of the match dragged on for too long, but the crowd remained invested throughout the whole match, so it didn’t become boring. The ending stretch was a little slow and ultimately predictable, but it did the job.

2 Sami Zayn Vs. Chad Gable (WWE Intercontinental Championship)

Here is a ranking of every WWE & AEW PPV thus far. Match quality, booking, crowd reactions and other factors were taken into consideration.

The technical aspect of Sami Zayn vs. Chad Gable was expectedly great, with brilliant selling from Zayn on both his arm and leg, and a vicious assault from Gable who picked apart his opponent. The storytelling of this match, with the conflict of both Maxxine Dupri and Otis, was nothing we haven’t seen before so it wasn’t super special, but the audience once again ate it all up. The audience was on fire throughout, which undoubtedly elevated the match in a big way. Gable sold the loss in a marvelous way too after the bell.

1 Damian Priest Vs. Drew McIntyre (World Heavyweight Championship)

Overall Rating From TheSportster: 8.5/10

Storytelling

2/2.5

Technical Ability

2/2.5

Character Work/Pyschology

2/2.5

Crowd Reaction

2.5/2.5

The raucous crowd were heavily invested in this match, cheering on Drew McIntyre in his home country. An unfortunate botch early on affected the match, with Priest’s leg clearly hurting him a great deal (unless it was impeccable selling), however, they worked around this injury to still create a compelling hoss fight where they beat each other with hard blows and powerful moves. The decision to have CM Punk cost McIntyre in Scotland will go down as one of the most controversial in recent memory. It took a lot of life out of the audience, rather than creating insane heat, but it was a swerve that was masterfully done.
